Characters I Wouldn't Be Surprised to See in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

The Super Smash Bros. series has a very close place to my heart. The original on the Nintendo 64 was the first video game I leaned hard on. Now we have Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and I have yet to get my hands on it (not to mention a Nintendo Switch). But with Joker from Persona 5 to receive an invitation and everybody going wild for the next third-party DLC fighter(s), it's getting hard keeping these thoughts to myself and I believe I got a pretty good idea on who got the best chances of entering the ultimate battle.

Now a character to make it in would had to have had their game or a game in their series released on a Nintendo console and probably for the company that owns them to have a good relationship with Nintendo. With that in mind let's see who I would NOT be surprised to see making an appearance.

Neku / Somebody from Dragon Quest / Crono / Noctis (Square Enix)

Neku Sakuraba from The World Ends with You recently had an enhanced port for the Nintendo Switch and being remembered as one of the top selling Nintendo DS titles, I don't see much of an argument against Neku. His fighting style would have him use his various "psych pins" and his buddies jumping in to perform specials. Doesn't seem like a strange choice.

I'm not a Dragon Quest player and am quite unfamiliar with the series other than the Slime character. However, it's hard not to notice how popular this series is over in Japan and with its high popularity I can say for certain Nintendo has this series under their radar. Not to mention there has been a crossover with Mario, the chances seem higher than ever.

Crono is from the critically acclaimed Chrono Trigger and considered by many to be one of the best video games of all time. An RPG first released on the SNES and created an unforgettable memory to many, I believe his inclusion will play a great tribute to video game and Nintendo history.

Now Noctis. The previous 3 would leave a better impression to the majority I'm sure but Square Enix loves their shilling and I have to admit another character from a third party series already in Smash Bros. to receive someone that's not an echo fighter would wow people. Noctis Lucis Caelum from Final Fantasy XV is no stranger to fighting as seen in Tekken 7 and for him to go after Ryu after facing Akuma would be quite poetic.

Phoenix Wright / Amaterasu / Leon S. Kennedy / Monster Hunter (Capcom)

The Ace Attorney series made no misses on Nintendo consoles and is an absolute fan favorite. A proper moveset was even conceived in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 so other than feeling off when seeing this lawyer fight head-to-head with villains who are quicker to destroy a courtroom than to attend one, this guy is a no-brainer. Unless Franziska von Karma makes it in instead with her whip attacks...

Ōkami made a big impact on the Wii and has gotten a sequel on the Nintendo DS and an HD port for the Nintendo Switch. This wolf goddess, Amaterasu, with her Brush power may very well have what it takes to join Smash.

Resident Evil 4 hit the Nintendo GameCube and is considered to be the best Resident Evil game, and also the game responsible for shifting away the focus of the series. Nonetheless, the protagonist, Leon S. Kennedy would be an interesting addition and will garner a crowd with the release of the Resident Evil 2 remake. Problem is his reliance on firearms. Nintendo will not let realistic gun shooting action be in the game so if he does make it in, will he get Snake's treatment?

Alright, Rathalos is in as a boss, the series is super popular, World came out not too long ago, there is even a movie on its way. Would I really be surprised to see a Monster Hunter? No.

Jin Kazama / Nightmare / Yoshimitsu / Somebody from Tales (Bandai Namco)

Jin, your company developed this Smash Bros. and the one before, and I think Heihachi Mishima was considered at one point. Something tells me Heihachi won't make it but if it's anybody from Tekken, it might be you. Tekken Tag Tournament 2 did very, very well and the Wii U Edition had some Nintendo fun thrown into it. I'm wondering why you're not already in the game.

If a Soulcalibur character is going in over Tekken, then Nightmare may as well be the one. He's on the logo of Project Soul, that's telling you he's important but I don't think chances are high for Soulcalibur. Did Soulcalibur II even get an HD release on the Wii U or the Nintendo Switch?

Now Yoshimitsu, you can represent both Tekken AND Soulcalibur. A simple costume swap between the two series and you're good. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo already had that thought up before I did. And people know you! They love you! You got a chance, pal.

The Tales series is big but Tales of Symphonia is especially big (not to mention it was originally on the Nintendo GameCube). The protagonist, Lloyd Irving may make it in and his following will be more than pleased for his inclusion. Didn't you also get a Mii costume at some point?

Last Dragonborn / Vault Boy / Doom Slayer (Bethesda)

"Hi, this is Todd Howard. Have you heard of Skyrim? You can purchase my game, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for the Nintendo Switch. You may know of the Last Dragonborn being in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He's from my game! So please, buy Skyrim and experience the adventure of the Last Dragonborn. Buy Skyrim." Yep, not surprised if this comes true.

Vault Boy... He's not even the main character or anybody really important besides being a mascot in Fallout but with Fallout Shelter having dropped on the Nintendo Switch and the popularity of the Fallout series, and not to mention Bethesda has spoken to Nintendo about something, this character of Vault-Tec has represented perks, traits, skills and more which he can use for battle. Could be very similar to Mr. Game & Watch or Wii Fit Trainer in terms of "that weird character nobody expected."

A gaming icon and had a really successful game on the Nintendo Switch with a sequel on its way, we got Doomguy or Doom Slayer from Doom. A potential FPS represent in Smash Bros. who may have a problem with the firearms. Get the Snake treatment or replace everything with energy weapons? Only time will tell.

Solaire of Astora (Dark Souls)

Has a remaster of the first game on the Nintendo Switch and a fan favorite character. He even has his own amiibo. Come on now.

Ayane / Kasumi (Dead or Alive)

Nintendo and Koei Tecmo are on good terms and co-own the Fatal Frame series, Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors are a thing, Dead or Alive: Dimensions on the Nintendo 3DS is a thing, Yuri Kozukata from Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water appears in Ultimate as an assist trophy AND Ayane from Dead or Alive has her own special episode in Maiden of Black Water. Tell me Dead or Alive has no chance. I dare you!

Noel Vermillion (BlazBlue)

Ragna the Bloodedge was not going to cut it. Do we really need more anime swordsmen? That said, why not this magical gun wielding fighting game gal make it in the fray? She is one of the 3 main characters of the series, a couple of games are on Nintendo consoles and the newest one is making its way to the Nintendo Switch, I don't see why not. Her "Drive" can be incorporated into her Special Moves and a moveset already exists. Arc System Works, it may not be long for your time to shine in Nintendo's eyes.

Sans (Undertale)

People thought it was not going to happen. I think there's a chance. The RPG is popular in both the West and the East and has made its way to the Nintendo Switch. If Nintendo truly wants to shine on the indie game scene I don't think the job can be done better than an Undertale character. And Sans has his following to back him up.

Steve (Minecraft)

The one other character that can do the job for the indie game scene is Steve from the unignorable Minecraft. I don't know what else to say. Minecraft is HUGE.

Characters That Won't Make It (I Believe Very Strongly)

And now here's the part where I destroy people's hopes and dreams unless Nintendo says so. These characters have been rumored or strongly been supported by their fans to be added to the roster but have a problem or two from letting it happen.

Banjo and Kazooie (Banjo-Kazooie)

Or anybody owned by Rare. Legal issues with Microsoft. As much as the first 2 games are beloved by Nintendo 64's own history and Phil Spencer is open with Banjo being in Smash, I'm sure Banjo's library making an appearance on Nintendo's Virtual Console would've happened by now if Microsoft is really, really okay with him having anything to do with Nintendo now.

Dante (Devil May Cry)

Unless your HD Collection I'm hearing about is coming soon to the Nintendo Switch is true, your pizza party will have to take place somewhere else. Sorry.

Reimu Hakurei (Touhou Project)

I just don't think Nintendo wants you right now. That's all.

Goku (Dragon Ball Z)

No non-video game characters allowed. Get that out of your heads.
